Hi-yah-cha-fah

Hi-yah-cha-fah is a japanese war cry hailing from childhood times when my brother Rhett practiced "karate" moves - I'm assuming after seeing The Karate Kid - often times on us, his sisters.  I never really got kids that were really into karate, as in the ones who actually took lessons - they always seemed either overly aggressive or just weird.  Except those select few I can still remember from various school talent shows who could break bricks and boards with their hands and even foreheads.  That was always pretty cool.

Well, today Abby started karate.  Technically she's on a free trial month pass sponsored by her sweet, shy little preschool friend Lisa.  So, technically this could only last a month.  But, Abby wants to go every day now. And of course they rope you in with the whole pristine white uniform, complete with the karate center logo on the back and white belt that just would look so great replaced by a yellow, then green, then orange (and on up the rainbow).  Abby has it folded neatly at the foot of her bed - for tomorrow.  Although she really did love her beginner ballet and tap class at the YMCA, karate seems to just come a little more naturally to her.  I haven't a clue as to why...  Hopefully her coordination will be helped better in karate than it was in ballet - she did straddle the punching post when she meant to kick it and missed.  As usual, it didn't seem to phase her any. We'll see how it goes.

QFTD

When I turned on the blender to make our breakfast shakes, Abby shouted form the kitchen table: "SERIOUSLY?"

Abby: "How about if we get a hamburger at Burger King and a frosty at Wendy's?"  Ellie: "And then we won't get cavities?"

Abby was telling Adam all the "K" words she learned at school. "...and Henok. Henok has a K in it." "What does henok mean?" "Henok is when a cow squirts milk out his milk squirty things into a jar so then you can put it in a container and buy it at the store to drink."

The girls were playing with their play food.  Abby: "Here sweety is an apple and some full-of-bologna."

Ellie, refuting today's lunch menu: "I don't LIKE Hammon!" Abby: "Salmon, ELlie!" "oh. salmon." (She ate it all.)

Ellie ran past Abby through the kitchen. Abby: "Shulinka!" "What?" "Pes samok halo biguiles." "Okay. I'm coming."

  1. Oh I wish that I could have seen her miss the kicking target, I can just image it...karate though? Do you really want abby learning how to punch through boards and how to break bricks with her face? I think it might be a recipe for disaster :) I've got to give it to her though, she does look like a natural.

  2. hi-yah-cha-fah: also what Jordan and I would say when we made our bed together tucking our bedspread over our pillows...haha, I never knew it was a real japanese war cry.

I do see Abby as a natural karate-er which is funny. I would love to see it in person. Skype?

  3. Okay - maybe not a REAL Japanese war cry - or maybe it is? Skype for sure. I have Relief tonight, so they'll probably be asleep by the time we get home. Tomorrow?
